Periodic Inspections

Major tank inspection standards require owners to perform periodic inspections of their storage and process equipment.  Inspections are required on a monthly basis and may include a more detailed inspection to be completed every year.  Many owners assign this work to facility operators or maintenance staff, then struggle to achieve compliance as other duties get in the way.

TSP’s periodic inspection program relieves owners of this maintenance burden.  Our inspection technicians visit the facility each month to perform visual inspections and document their findings.  We customize inspection checklists for each facility to maximize compliance and minimize cost.

In addition to allowing facility staff to focus on more critical duties, TSP’s periodic inspection program provides three key benefits to owners:

  1. No-cost review of inspection reports by a certified inspector.
  2. Lower cost for certified inspections when those inspections are also performed by TSP.
  3. Priority scheduling for certified inspections, repairs and maintenance.

    Periodic Inspection Requirements:

    • API-653: “The external condition of the tank shall be monitored by close visual inspection from the ground on a routine basis … The interval of such inspections shall be consistent with conditions at the particular site, but shall not exceed one month.”
    • SP001: “The owner’s inspector is to complete or update the STI SP001 Monthly Inspection Checklist or equivalent each month” and “the STI SP001 Annual Inspection Checklist or equivalent each year.”
    • SP8310: “A monthly operator external inspection of general AST operability with annual review by Owner … shall be performed for each AST.”
